Well this part of my website might not get updated very often but one part that is, is the rock music section with all the pictures that I have been taking at the new rock club in town called Audio Graffiti.
It's strange in a way as the venue used for Audio Graffiti Studio 4 used to be called The Glenfinnan Suite and it was in the Glenfinnan Suite that I took my very first rock pictures a way back in 1988 so in a way it kinda feels like I've come complete circle and I'm back were I started, except that todays pictures are a 100 times better than my first tentative steps into rock photography all those years ago.
]]>So packed my gear and went straight from work to the gig only to discover that there was less light at the gig than there was the previous time! but I decided to try a few new shooting techniques during there first set and see what the results were like. They were ok but the lack of light was causing a big problem, but when the guys from the band finished there set and I had a chance to talk to them they explained that it was so light outside when they started they had left the lights off because they had no effect but would be on for the second set. So the second set started and with some more altering of my new digital cameras settings I was able to get some really cool shots of the band that didn't look like it had been taken in one of there living rooms........result :o)
It's been so long since I had done any really serious live rock band photography I was a bit worried about what the results would be like but thanks to being able to preview the pictures right after they were taken it seems like I haven't lost my touch which pleased me no end and spured me on to take even more pics.
Of course the other major happening this weekend has been the Live 8 concerts against poverty in Africa, well what can I say a damm good cause by Sir Bob if maybe a little naive in my opinion over the compexity of the issues involved but I'm not going to complain when you get that many good bands playing all around the world and uninterupted coverage both on radio and tv. The highlights for me were Paul McCartney an Bono openning with "Sergeant Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band", The Who and of course watching Roger Waters playing with Pink Floyd again after 24 years.
Do I like all the oldies best?.........Of course I do keep the peace and remember Make Poverty History!!!!
]]>Well what's been happening them you might ask? Well the main thing is I now have a digital SLR a Canon 350D to be exact and it's lovely so hoppfully I might actually update my site a bit more with new stuff as it's all in digital format now an I won't need to scan negs/slides anymore and them correct them from the scanning process but don't hold your breath on that one ;-)
Anyway we shall see.
Bye for now Neil
Will play around with it a bit more latter too night an see if I can get the comments part working correctly.
Till latter
Neil
